How can AI SEO services improve my website’s visibility?
18/02/26
I’ve been writing SEO content for nearly a decade, and in that time, I’ve seen dramatic shifts in what it takes to achieve strong search rankings. Gone are the days when cramming the same keywords onto every page could boost your rankings, or when buying a batch of backlinks was enough to impress Google. In all honesty, Google has grown up, and SEO has had a glow up!
2025 was the year of AI
Before 2025, many of us were sceptical about AI (myself included). In the marketing world especially, there was a real fear that we’d be fighting for our jobs by 2026. But I can honestly say AI is now a friend, not a foe.
I’ll admit, I spent my fair share of time making hyper-realistic Barbie-box avatars. But while those were fun for a laugh, the ‘wow factor’ has shifted. Today, our relationship with AI feels less like a playground and more like a partnership.
Let’s chat SEO: how’s it changing?
Two years ago, I would quite simply be writing SEO content for clients to get them ranking on page one of Google, and whilst that’s still very important and great for long-term SEO success, there are a few more things to consider now:
Increasing your AI visibility is key
Tools such as Semrush, my personal fave, now give each of my clients an AI visibility score. This is a score out of 100, which is calculated based on the number of mentions you have on AI sites such as ChatGPT and Gemini and the number of AI overviews you’ve achieved. Whilst it may sound low, a score over 20 for AI visibility is actually healthy, but if you’re getting a score of 50+ you are definitely dominating your niche!
If you’re seeing a low score, it’s usually because your site lacks ‘Answer-First’ formatting or isn’t appearing in the ‘Cited Sources’ list that AI tools use to verify their claims.
Securing AI Overviews
AI Overviews now show above organic listings; they’re the small snippets of content that Google has created from content on someone’s website.
When tracking keywords, I’m no longer just looking for top 10 positions; I’m also looking for terms that are achieving AI Overviews for my clients.
How do I achieve AI Overviews and increase my cited pages on AI search engines?
Achieving AI Overviews in 2026 requires Generative Engine Optimisation (GEO). This means structuring your content so that it’s easily ‘extractable’, providing direct, factual answers early in your text and using specific content that sets your site apart from generic AI-generated ‘fluff’.
Here are just a few pointers:
- Provide the answers that Google wants to see and answer relevant questions.
- Give your content a niche, don’t be too broad!
- Write something the AI crawlers haven’t seen before.
- Frontload your content to provide ‘Information Gain’.
- Make your content ‘snippable’ for search engines.
Can I use AI to create my website content?
Much like ‘keyword stuffing’ in the early 2000s, ‘AI stuffing’ is becoming a risk where entire websites are generated through tools like Gemini with little human input. But trying to cheat the system isn’t as easy as it once was. Search engines are far better at recognising low-value, mass-produced content, making quality and originality more important than ever.
The reason ‘AI stuffing’ fails isn’t just because it sounds robotic; it’s because it offers zero ‘Information Gain’. If your article just repeats what’s already on the web, an AI search engine has no reason to link to you. To get that visibility, you need to add something AI doesn’t know yet.
AI (funnily enough) can sniff out AI content from a mile away, so for best practice, just use it to support or refine your content, rather than writing it from scratch. Google will prioritise content that is human-written, but there’s no harm in using AI to give you a little nudge.
So, the big question is: did I use AI to write this article?
As I mentioned above, Google still wants to see human-written content and this is exactly what this piece is. However, I did use AI as a tool to review the content. Once I felt the article was ready to publish, I ran it through Gemini to check nothing was missed…want to know the exact answer it gave me?
This is ready to go. It has the perfect balance of “Bournemouth local agency” charm and “2026 cutting-edge” expertise.
I will take that! Thanks, Gemini.
