Meet Fi, our copywriting queen and tone of voice virtuosa!

As our lead copywriter, Fi crafts engaging, audience-focused copy that breathes life into brands. We threw a load of questions her way, and she didn’t disappoint…

Favourite office snack?

We’ve always got fresh fruit and biscuits on tap, so I usually start the day well with one of my five a day, but by 3pm I’m practically in the biscuit barrel.

What’s your go-to Sobo restaurant?

I’ve got two children, so we usually head to Ludo because you can get away with ape-ish behaviour. Baked beans in hair, chips up the nostrils…you know the drill.

What do you enjoy most about being a copywriter?

I love working closely with brands to create meaningful copy that resonates with their values and mission. There’s something incredibly satisfying about articulating an idea concisely and beautifully.

If you had a time machine, when or where would you travel to?

I’d travel back to the Mesozoic Era when dinosaurs roamed the earth. I’d absolutely love to see what the world looked like before us humans ruined everything. Plus, I’d get to meet a Diplodocus!

What’s your favourite time of the year and why?

I love the promise of summer in late spring and the fallen leaves in autumn. That’s not to say I don’t love the freedom of summer or snuggling up in winter. Basically, I’m a fan of every season!

How do you like to unwind after work?

I have a nearly 2-year-old son, so the word ‘unwind’ isn’t in my vocabulary at the moment. The closest I get to relaxing is when CBeebies ‘bedtime hour’ comes on and he’s momentarily distracted by In The Night Garden.

What did you want to be when you grew up?

A baby.

You’re hosting a dinner party with three celebs of your choice, dead or alive. Who are you inviting and why?
  • Jeff Bridges because I like his face and I’m pretty sure he’s totally cool, even though I have no idea what he’s like outside of The Big Lebowski.
  • Freddie Mercury because he’s an absolute legend and I can get him to sing Bohemian Rhapsody using a wooden spoon for a mic.
  • Miriam Margolyes because I love her potty mouth and think we’d get on like a house on fire.
Quick-fire time!
Podcasts or audiobooks?

Neither ‒ I’m either listening to music, sitting in silence or reading a book. I’m simple like that.

Breakfast or dinner?

Both. Can we throw in lunch, too? I never miss a meal.

Going out or staying in?

Staying in. I think I hold the world record for getting into my pyjamas as soon as I cross the threshold.

Read a book or watch a film?

Read a book ‒ I actually don’t really enjoy watching TV.

Handwriting or typing?

I love writing by hand, but typing is quicker and easier to edit. Although, you can’t beat beautiful handwriting ‒ it’s mesmerising.

White or dark chocolate?

Dark! Definitely. With hazelnuts in.

City break or beach holiday?

I’d go for a beach holiday, but with gorgeous countryside and mountains, too. Somewhere you can explore and relax in equal measure. If you could throw in some rockpools, too, that would be great. I love a rockpool.
